CM Punk Third Highest-Paid Fighter At UFC 203

Famous former wrestler CM Punk was the third highest-paid fighter at UFC 203, netting $500,000 to show for his fight against Mickey Gall.  Gall was paid $15,000 to show and $15,000 to win, so he walked away with $30,000 for beating CM Punk.

Alistair Overeem was the highest paid fighter, making $800,000.  Stipe Miocic defeated Overeem in the main event and Miocic made $600,000.  Co-main event fighters Fabricio Werdum and Travis Browne made $375,000 and $120,000, respectively.

Ringside Analysis:

CM Punk’s appearance in the UFC was a celebrity appearance.  The UFC was capitalizing on CM Punk’s popularity that he made during his time as a pro wrestler.  His lack of experience showed against Mickey Gall who effortlessly took down the former wrestling star and easily worked his way to a submission victory.

The biggest attraction to CM Punk’s short career thus far was the build-up to the fight.  There was programming specifically for CM Punk who had never fought professionally before.  Now that the celebrity lost cleanly his brand value in the UFC is most likely gone.  It turns out the ring walk, to the tune of “Cult of Personality,” was the real prize.
